High School Play Was a Hit

Written by Lauren McGougan

“There are no small parts, only small actors.” The Strathmore High School drama students are proving this to be true as they put on a great performance of Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, under the direction of Mrs. Richardson. The play ran in the Strathmore High School theatre from November twenty fifth to the twenty seventh. It was a hit with not only the school, but the public as well. Main characters were played by Seth Balance, Bo Lewington, Meagan Hay, Kaitlin Wouters, Matt Rederberg and Jordan Ferraton.
Seth, a grade twelve student in the play was very excited to be involved in the production. “ I feel that we put on the play well, it was a lot of fun to do.” The students are natural actors and obviously found the most exciting thing to be onstage performing. When asked if he found anything hard about the play, he said that the language can sometimes pose a challenge for some students. “They sometimes don’t know what they are saying, and therefore it can be harder to act.” He said that after people understood what they were saying however, they were ready for the production. The play also features Appollo Muise, Brandon Skinner, Justin Gordanier, Jordan Anderson, Bua Pronpavee Thanesakorn, Cody Neale, Cameron Iverson, Bailey Gordon, Giacoma Pennacchietti, Ryley Paquette, Paige Rist, Cheyanne Sutherland and Lauren Newton. Jennifer Murray was in charge of sound and Taylor Guimont was in charge of lights.
Another highlight was the set design. It was beautifully crafted with the help of the art students. Melissa MacPherson, Keegan Schultz, Brittany Klassen-Rau, Jordan Ferraton, Dallas Grams, Karak Peneyra, Olivia McDonald, Anessa Big Snake, Anil Karmali, Naae Lee, Joshua Stolz and Daniela Neira all used their creative talents to enhance the play, under the direction of Mrs. Stevens. Many students who viewed the production said that it was very well done and that they would enjoy seeing another show similar to it soon. So between great teacher guidance, great actors and artists hopefully we will be able to see more shows soon.
