2023/2024 Minister's Youth Council Opportunity

The student voice is essential to a strong, robust education system. One of my main priorities as Minister of Education is to listen to the thoughts, experiences and ideas of the more than 700,000 students across Alberta. One way I can achieve this is through the Minister’s Youth Council.

In October 2022, members of the 2022/23 council met virtually for the first meeting of the school year, where they learned about leadership, the education system, government process, mental health, post‑secondary education and more. I am incredibly proud of this year’s council members for sharing their valuable perspectives with me, and I look forward to meeting with them again later this month to continue our important conversations.

I am pleased to announce that recruitment for the 2023/24 Minister’s Youth Council will officially begin on February 15, 2023. We are looking for approximately 40 junior and senior high school students from across Alberta, between the ages of 14 and 19 and representing diverse interests, identities, backgrounds and perspectives, to join next year’s council.

Of the 40 council members, we will accept up to eight returning members and at least 32 new members. Participation on the council will give students the opportunity to make a real impact on Alberta’s education system, build their leadership skills and leave a legacy that will last for generations to come.

The deadline for students to apply is March 24, 2023. For more information, please visit alberta.ca/student-engagement.aspx
