Learning Commons Information

Our SHS Learning Commons is a place where we encourage both the pursuit of learning and the enjoyment of reading in a welcoming environment. 

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

Loan Period: You get your books for 2 weeks, there is a book return slot both inside and outside the front door of the Library.

ID Cards: Please bring your student ID cards to sign out both Learning Commons books and textbooks. 

Computers: The computers in the Learning Commons are available for students use before and after school, at lunch time and during spares. If a class has booked in to use the computers, they may be unavailable. Computers are here for your educational use - gaming, Facebook, etc. are not allowed.

Collection: Available in the Learning Commons are fiction and non-fiction books, as well as ready reference, magazines, and newspapers.

  • Magazines - Canada's HistoryCanadian LivingCooks IllustratedDiscover, Hello - Canada, Hockey News - Canada McLean's, Men's Journal, National Geographic Traveler, Outside, People, Real Simple, Science News, Style at Home, Taste of Home, Travel & Leisure,

  • Newspapers - The Strathmore Standard, and The Strathmore Times 

Non-fiction research books are categorized by the Dewey Decimal Classification System.  Fiction books are categorized by the first letter of the author's last name.

ASK FOR HELP! - Reference and research assistance is provided by your Librarians, never hesitate to ask for it. Use the above tab to fill out a question form and your Librarian will do their best to answer, or come down to the Learning Commons to see me!

**Please no eating at the computers, only at the tables.  Clean up after yourselves.  Computers are to be used for school purposes only - no games, Facebook, etc.
